Formed, Sealed, and ready for mo-cement.

Good Morning All,  This morning we are ready for the Thetis Island Ferry to deliver the blue flame cement truck to the island, as so we can commence pouring the floor.  The past 3 days we have been back filling, leveling , laying out plumbing, marking walls for the sloped floor, building footings for the car port, and receiving our first build package!  Seen in the back ground is our first shipment.  Woo Hoo.  We will start framing Thursday or Friday.

Run Power Run.

Here is our 200 amp power cable (and a cat 3 cable) trenched from our wee little power building to the back corner of the main building.  I had to get this cable laid in 2 feet under ground, on a bed of sand, then covered with 6" pf sand. and after that, a 8 inch wide bright yellow tape is run the entire length of the cable. then all is covered with fill.  The purpose of the tape is to warn anyone who might be digging that a live power cable is a scoop away. Remember: "Safety is No Accident!"

Don't We All Need to Be Grounded?

Foundation! Ok, we are close.  The forms for our foundation have been completed by the hard working and very talented Hunter Brothers  (Pictures will not be published due to their popularity).

We should see the cement truck arrive on the 8:20 Ferry Tuesday morning. Monday we will install all the plumbing runs that have to be in place before we pour. Look for more updates Wednesday.

THe POWER HOUSE!

What you see here is our Power Building.  In order to achieve two things, limited overhead power lines, and no more power poles having to be drilled into solid rock; we decided to build a little shed that will house our power meter.  From here, we will trench underground and run our power to where ever we need it.

$1000 Hole!

Yep! You read correctly!  $1000 hole!  In order for us to have Power run down to our property we had to have a power pole that is required to be 6.5 feet in the ground.  Well... with the Big Yellow I was able to dig 3.5 feet, then we hit solid rock.  Crap. So... we had to hire a rock drilling truck to come across on the ferry $$$ as well as the $300 per foot rate to drill.  A little shocking yes.  The white powder you see is the pummeled rock. Hopefully in the next week or so (once the Government Power company does the paperwork) we will have a big stick to drop in here. Posted by Picasa

Clearing Continues.

We continue with pulling stumps, moving piles of dirt and rock, and keep falling more trees.  I know from the picture it doesn't seem like a lot of progress, but the site is looking good.  Tomorrow we will put the transit on site and stake out the foundation. All the plans have been approved and we have a very expensive hole in the ground waiting for a Power pole to arrive.  More on that later.
